"I first got past the Dane and then took the opportunity to overtake Kuppens to move into the lead. I then tried to see things out and held the others off. I have been waiting for this for two years and finally my Maserati Trofeo moment has arrived”.
Mikkel Mac (2° Overall): “I made the most of my pole position to get a good start before Kuppens and Simoni closed in. I finished second. Obviously, first would have been better but I hope to celebrate a win in tomorrow’s endurance event even though I will have a time handicap in the pits (the weekend’s top five drivers have time handicaps in the endurance race, Ed)”.
Renaud Kuppens (3° Overall, 1° Team): “First of all, I would like to thank Alan and Mikkel for doing so well. It was important for me to finish among the leaders and I managed it. It was a tough race and I had to ease up to keep the tyres in good shape as I had used them in Friday’s qualifying session. This meant that I couldn’t press too hard even when I had the chance to overtake the lead two towards the end. My braking was right on the limit and I ran off the track, mainly to avoid colliding into Simoni. I am satisfied anyway; at the end of the day, the important thing was to finish on the podium”.
