In qualifying, a crash prevented the young Vicenza-based driver from completing his lap, forcing him, and team mate Fascicolo, to line up at the back of the field. Unluckily for them, the weather also had a say with the second session cancelled and the race grid orders based on the results of Qualifying 1. As the saying goes: ‘when the going gets tough, the tough get going’ and Cecchellero duly showed that he has what it takes in finishing eighth in Race 2.
"The weekend got off to the worst start possible as I couldn’t even complete my qualifying lap because of an accident. This didn’t help our mood as we came to Paul Ricard intending to challenge for victory so ending up among the back markers was pretty frustrating. The main thing now was to get our confidence back and make up for things in the second race. I managed to do that and am now looking forward to the endurance event".
