Cecchellero, from Veneto, has stood out, so far, for his pace but coped admirably on his first taste of the Yas Marina track.
"This is a spectacular circuit; I am speechless. I can't pretend that it is my favourite track but it has some interesting points and is really eye-catching. It is not an easy circuit to interpret with the unusual grip playing a role. Also, the width of the track means that, in some sections, there is more than one racing line so it is not intuitive. The big asphalt run-off areas mean that you can go for it when trying to find the car's edge without taking too many risks".
Ceccellero gradually got to know the track and took pole right at the end. His advantage over Sbirrazzuoli was marginal but he beat off a tough group of drivers fighting for first:
"We are up front so I can't complain. It was a hard session with the lap times pretty close together. There was nothing between the front row and the fourth".
