"Unfortunately I made a mistake and Sernagiotto profited and closed in. We collided near the end, and it wasn’t that clean, but Giorgio let me through and I retook the lead. After, the car felt a little unstable but, luckily, I managed to get across the line.
Even though the outcome was very different, I have to admit that I prefer yesterday afternoon’s conditions. This morning the weather was very different and I struggled, above all when braking. Race 3 was even tougher: 50 minutes is a long time and I had to deal with the traffic on a track where overtaking is really hard”.
Giorgio Sernagiotto (2nd Overall, 1st Trofeo): “I found myself chasing Renaud but then, halfway through, I was much quicker. I tried to attack him but, on this circuit, it is virtually impossible to overtake. Inevitably we clashed when I tired to get past. I let him through so that I wasn’t slapped with a penalty but I got distracted looking in the rear-view mirror and ended up on the grass. This put paid to my chances of victory. I will be fighting for the win in the afternoon event, together with my team-mate Fascicolo”.
Johannes Van Overbeek (3rd Overall, 2nd Trofeo): “This is my first time in a Maserati but I have competed at Sonoma before. It was quite an even race, especially for those of us behind Kuppens and Sernagiotto. I did try to force it but also had to defend my position. In the end I came home third”.
