Johnny Herbert: “I expected to do well. Even though I only stepped into the Maserati Quattroporte Evo yesterday, I felt at home straight away because it handles really well, is stable and doesn’t suffer from too much body roll. The set up also suited my style of driving and I hardly had to make any changes to personalise it. I couldn’t have bettered third. The Audis gained 1"-1"5 a lap because the regulations favour them; they also have four-wheel drive. I felt like I was dressed in a tuxedo with one hand tied behind my back when Kristoffersson overtook and went on to grab second. I think some changes need to be made otherwise there is no chance of competing with the RS5”.
Cesari: "I only just avoided a crash"
Mauro Cesari: “I am not too pleased with 13th but I couldn’t improve on it. I started way down the pack, in 15th, because of a problem I had at the start of the practice session. Then, during the race, Caldarola spun and I lost at least 3-4". It didn’t look good and I thought I would crash into him. Luckily I managed to sneak past but had lost contact with the group ahead of me. I did all I could, made up some ground and caught a couple of drivers. That was the best I could do. I hope to make up for it in Race 2”.
