"Ever since I was a child, I always dreamed of owning a Maserati" recounted Forster after the Trofeo qualifying session. "This dream was realised when I purchased a splendid Indy 4700 that dazzles outside the Maserati hospitality area. It is a car that celebrates its 40th birthday today. And it looks good for it's age!"
"A few years ago, when in Italy, I came across this Indy in fine condition. After using it for a while and having no problems at all, together with my trusty mechanic, I started a restoration project that has led to the car being here on its 40th birthday".
The Maserati Indy took its name from the Indianapolis circuit where Maserati triumphed in 1939 and 1940. It was designed as a more laid back and spacious gran turismo for drivers looking for an alternative to the Ghibli. The car's extraordinary design is down to genius of Giovanni Michelotti who worked at the Vignale coachbuilder in Turin. The car's fascination was down to its slick front end, with its pop-up headlights, and the large windows that made the interior seem even more roomy.
A special car deserves a special celebration so when a surprise birthday cake was presented to the Austrian he decided to share it with all the other drivers.
"It was really nice of Maserati to prepare a cake in the car's honour".
