Pole position in Race 2 allowed me to speed away and, over the first three laps, I tried to wring as much as I could out of the car. I did this to build up a big lead going into the second half of the race. The car was perfect from start to finish and, compared to the first race, I noted that the tyres improved a lot and were really responsive for the entire forty minutes. Unlike this morning, I stopped myself from fiddling with any buttons and focused solely on the race”.
Stefano Gai (2nd in the Trofeo category, 3rd overall): “I had more niggly problems with the transmission this afternoon and this meant that I couldn’t use the fast gear shifts. Because of this I couldn’t gain on or attack Baldi. All I could do was defend my position, especially in the slower curves where I had to use the gears. I was in behind Ardagna and, as soon as I saw my chance, I tried to overtake. The opportunity came up at around the halfway stage and I made the most of it with a fine overtaking move”.
Gaetano Ardagna (3rd in the Trofeo category, 3° overall): “I am pleased that this made up for the bad luck in Race 1. I only had a few slight problems with the gearbox and Stefano (Gai, ed) exploited it. I got into his slipstream but the engine temperature rose quite a bit after a few laps and so I backed off to let it cool down. I then picked up the pace again and as we were matching each other for pace, my only chance of nicking second was if he made a mistake. Altogether, I am very happy with this result”.za”.
