This was in part down to me because I followed the mechanics’ instructions but they had put the sticker on upside down.
This meant that Race 1 slipped away and so I had to focus on the second race. In this race I experienced a few glitches with the fast shifts, maybe due to the heat, but it worked fine from the seventh lap on. The problem meant that I couldn’t keep up with Baldi and had to watch out for first Gaetano’s (Ardagna, ed) attacks and then Gai’s. When everything started working well, I managed to set really good lap times and manage both my tyres and hold my position”.
Olivier Doeblin (Scuderia Jolly Club, 2nd in class, 8th overall): “I am overjoyed because we are using a 2010 spec car that has none of the modifications made for this season. I had a few transmission problems, particularly at the Variante Alta, but this didn’t stop me having fun battling with Alessandro (Chionna, ed). I was able to fend him off and finish ahead of him”.
Alessandro Chionna (AF Corse, 3rd in class, 9th overall): “The aim was to collect important points and defend the first place overall that my team-mate had earned in Race 1. I think I was quite quick, especially as it was my first time in this car. Looking back, it could have gone better but I didn’t have very long to get to know the car in free practice and so didn’t know how best to manage the tyres when they are wearing out. This would have been the only way to chase down Doeblin for eighth place, second in class. Still, I am satisfied. We will have to improve at the home race at Monza especially as Cedric (Sbirrazzuoli, ed) did so well with this morning’s win. I want to be on that level again at Monza”.
