At the end of the two Oschersleben races of the fifth round of the Trofeo Maserati GranTurismo MC, the championship’s leading duo, Goldstein/Sundberg, move further ahead – even if just a bit – away from their direct adversary, Pietro Zumerle.
In the morning’s first race, run in the fog, the Swedish driver was the winner: After leading undisturbed for most of the race, Sundberg noticed a problem with a tire that made him lose ground to Zumerle himself, who tried to overtake him without success at the last curve before reaching the finish line. Francesco La Mazza, protagonist of an exciting, hard-fought battle with Gaetano Ardagna Perez and Austrian Sven Heyroswky, earned the third place on the podium, his first of the season.
In the second race, the victory went to Paolo Necchi, who started off from pole position, and who led the race from the first. Second place was for Sergio Rota, who at the end had to defend himself from Emanuele Smurra’s attempt to overtake him. Smurra nullified his good performance up to then by leaving the track twice in the space of a few hundred yards, thus also losing third place to Ardagna Perez.
Fighting for the first two positions, the two most watched drivers —Goldstein and Zumerle— left the track at the first curve after start-off, and had to gain lost ground to return to the top positions. In the end it was the Italian who got up to sixth position (marking the fastest lap, the 7th in 1:38.475), while his rival Goldstein finished eighth.
