Peter Sundberg (winner of race 2 - Trofeo): “I just edged it from Manuel Villa in a photo finish. I didn’t get off to a very good start and this was partly because my tyres weren’t up to temperature. I used the first six laps to try to warm them up and then pushed on from there. I was soon up in Manuel’s slipstream. From then on it was tight racing but clean all the way. I have to admit that I did clip him at one stage but it wasn’t done on purpose. Overall, as I said, it really was a great race”.
Manuel Villa (second in race 2 – Trofeo): “After the forgettable first race, I am pleased with how race 2 went even though I just missed out on the win. I started brightly and was tucked in behind Rota and Capelli. I was a few metres down on them but then they collided and I found myself clear up front. Halfway through the race I had a little trouble with the gearbox and lost a bit of ground. Sundberg soon pulled up to me and, to avoid any damage to the car, I let him through. My aim was a podium finish and so I tried to stay with him. Then, Sundberg made a mistake at the second Lesmo turn and again at Ascari. I did my best to get past him and we got to the Parabolica neck and neck. I tired to sneak through and almost managed it but I ended up in the dirt, lost that crucial bit of grip, and ended up second”.
Francesco Maggi (third race 2 - Trofeo): “I had a bit of trouble in qualifying yesterday and couldn’t push as hard as I wanted. This meant that I was a little down the grid: in race 1 I started from seventeenth and crossed the line fifth. In the second race I was eighth on the grid and ended up on the podium. This third place is great. Saturday’s problems have been ironed out thanks to the mechanics. So, it all went well. It was an amazing experience”.
