Bertolini-Bartels still out in front
The Vitaphone Racing Team Maserati scored a significant result at Brno during the seventh round of the FIA-GT.
The two Maserati MC12s, weighed down with ballast after the fine performances at Spa Francorchamps and Bucharest (125 kg for Bertolini/Bartels and 90 kg for Ramos/Negraõ), collected a sixth and a seventh spot to stay in the overall lead. Negraõ got off to a great start but a clash with Piccini saw him go into a spin and lose his left hand door; this was changed on lap 11. Bertolini had a smoother time of it in climbing from tenth to seventh. He then tucked in behind Esteban Tuero’s Ferrari before overtaking him on lap four.
Bertolini/Bartels’ race was event-free until the finish while Ramos/Negraõ, slowed up after the incident at the start, managed to come back and finish in seventh. Overall, Bertolini and Bartels, who will have less ballast to deal with at Nogaro, have a 13.5 point lead over Ramos/Negraõ and 11 over the Corvette driven by Hezemans/Gollin. In the Teams’ standings, the Vitaphone Racing Team Maserati has a healthy 22.5 point lead over Phoenix Carsport Racing.
