Verdonck, partnered by Bert Longin, posted the fourth best time in this morning's qualifying session. The result, ahead of the fifth round of the FIA GT1 being held at Spa in Belgium, far exceeded expectations.
"For me, it is great just being here in the FIA GT1. I have a fantastic car and splendid team. There is a high level of professionalism and, for me, everything is first class. I would like to thank everyone who has allowed me to live this experience, one that is very important for my career. For me this is a great opportunity".
"I am getting to know the car and I am feeling more at home with each lap. Driving alongside Bert Longin helps; he is someone I know and he has bags of experience. He could be the crucial factor for me as he knows the circuit really well".
"We are confident going into the race. Yesterday went well for us in the wet as did today in the dry. This fourth place really is a fine result!"
Nico, the 2009 European Formula Le Mans champion, was born in Brussels 25 years ago. For him driving at Spa is special: "Well, making my FIA GT1 debut in a Maserati at a legendary circuit like Spa is a huge responsibility but also an extra reason to celebrate. I want to give my all to repay the faith this superb team has placed in me. This year I have competed in Formula Le Mans with the Oreca 09 and have had mixed results. I'll say it one more time: driving for Maserati in the FIA GT1 is an amazing opportunity for me".
