Bertolini/Bartels' fifth place was enough to take the Drivers' title, the second after the 2006 win.
The race was often spectacular and the difficulty of the track made every mistake decisive. Right from the start the two Maserati MC12s, driven by Bertolini / Bartels and Ramos / Negraõ, opted to steer clear of the traffic while keeping in constant touch with the front runners.Their lap times were always on a par with the leading Saleen and Hezemans / Gollin's Corvette, their direct rivals in the title chase who had to be happy with second overall.
A fault-free drive saw Bertolini and Bartels wrap things up as they made the most of the MC12's renowned reliability. Negraõ was unlucky as he damaged his radiator trying to swerve round a GT2 that had been slowed down by a puncture. This did not prevent the Brazilian and his Portuguese partner, Ramos, from finishing third in the championship.
