Alexander Negraõ takes third spot

Monza - It was far from ideal weather conditions at Monza for round two of the FIA-GT championship.

Despite the stop-start rain that led to the teams continually changing the cars’ set up and tyres. The Vitaphone Racing team’s Maserati MC12 earned a place on the second row thanks to a superb last lap by 22 year-old Brazilian Alexander Negraõ. He set the third fastest time of 1’49”555, .471 down on pole. It was a performance that showed how much the young driver has improved. Together with his Portuguese team mate, Miguel Ramos, he will be looking for a fine finish tomorrow.

Andrea Bertolini’s 1’52”000 saw him claim a place on row eight. As at Silverstone where he finished second, Bertolini will have to make another comeback if he is to make an impact here. As it rained one minute and then was dry the next, Bertolini opted to come into the pits for intermediates as the rain was lightening. Tomorrow’s event promising to be exciting and will be run in uncertain weather in front of over six hundred Maserati staff.
