Third fastest time for Thomas Biagi
This time was clocked by the Emilian driver on his second fast lap. Pole position was taken by the Corvette C6R with Deletraz/Hezemans (1’43”504) on board. Sharing the front row will be the Aston Martin DBR9 with the Wendlinger/Sharp duo (1’43”745) behind the wheel. The Playteam Sarafree MC12s occupy fifth and sixth spots courtesy of, respectively, Bertolini/Piccini (1’44”446) and Giannoccaro/Pierguidi (1’44”667). The Vitaphone Racing Team MC12 driven by Ramos/Montanari will line up in eighth (1’45”511).
The qualifying result does not dim the prospects for tomorrow's race, even though Bertolini/Piccini will have to mount a comeback. The pair will have to effect a drive through within the first five laps after the commissioners converted the thirty second time penalty inflicted at Zhuhai to a thirty second, limited speed passage through the pit lane. Last year the Trident cars performed splendidly as Bertolini/Bartels claimed the win. The duo also took the Tourist Trophy as Maserati was victorious at the Enlglish circuit for the first time. Macari/Aucott will take up the second berth in the Citation Cup.
ifth was claimed by Waaijenberg/Kutemann, both in JMB Racing MC12s. The race will get underway at 12.00 local time (13.00 in Italy) and will last two hours.
