2005 FIA GT Championship

Maserati strike the bullseye!

After its extraordinary debut in 2004, the MC12 lined up for the start of the FIA GT championship knowing that it was in with a great shout of the overall crown.

The championship would be held over eleven races on some of the best known circuits around, some even outside Europe. The four Maseratis would be prepared by two top teams: Vitaphone Racing Team and JMB Racing and they would set the cars up all the way to the last round in Bahrain. This race was to prove decisive and controversial as the six Maserati drivers in the running were outdone by Gabriele Gardel.
Although there were a few long faces after victory had just slipped away, in Viale della Nazioni the first GT1 Manufacturers’ Cup went some way towards compensating, as did Vitaphone Racing Team taking the Team title.

In what was a top draw season, the Maserati MC12s secured a fantastic one-two at the 24 Hours of Spa, something never before done by a car making its debut in the classic event.
